Daiya Foods: Plant-based Innovation

I’m sure you’ve heard of the innovative plant-based company, Daiya Foods, by now. Their plant-based foods can be found in more than 25,000 grocery stores in Canada and the US, as well as Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The company was founded in Vancouver BC in 2008 by Greg Blake and Andre Kroecher – two friends with a love for good food, and a commitment to healthier living and a vegan lifestyle. Their passion and consumer interest inspired them to create delicious dairy-free foods, made entirely from plants. In fact, the Daiya duo were the first in the industry to use innovative plant-based ingredients such as tapioca and pea protein.

It all started from one plant-based cheeze product and now to the further expansion of products including pizza, mac & cheeze, and frozen desserts. Just last month, Daiya launched the first-ever plant-based and allergen-friendly flatbreads. Perfect for lunch or as a shared appetizer, the new flatbreads feature their award-winning Cutting Board Cheeze Shreds on top of a thin gluten-free crust in two flavours; Mushroom, Caramelized Onion & Fig and Meatless Italian Sausage Flavoured Crumbles, with Roasted Pepper & Kale.

Over the summer, Daiya also launched 2 new unique cheeze blocks. The first being their Grilling Cheeze Block, made with oats and chickpeas, which forms a crispy, golden outer crust without melting away when grilled or fried. The second being their Feta Style Block, made with gluten-free oats and a touch of olive oil – perfect for crumbling on salads, wraps, pasta, pizza, or whatever you desire!

The team will be celebrating Daiya’s 15th anniversary in 2023 from their state-of-the-art production facility in Burnaby and are excited to continue growing and innovating, as they pave the way for plant-based breakthroughs. On top of that, Daiya is committed to food security efforts and reducing food waste wherever they can. They currently help community groups and Food Banks in North America with a minimum commitment of 100,000 meals donated each year. Over the past 5 years, Daiya has partnered with FoodMesh – a food recovery service provider that helps companies waste less and help feed more.
