The Dock+: Port Alberni’s 17,000 sq ft Shared Commercial Kitchen at Fishermen’s Harbour
April 9, 2026, Burnaby, BC – As part of the BC Food Hub Network, The Dock+ is a revitalized community hub that helps local food start-ups and small businesses grow, collaborate, and innovate. Renovated with support from sponsors and funders, this Port Alberni facility at Fishermen’s Harbour, owned by the Port Alberni Port Authority, offers a shared 17,000 sq ft commercial kitchen and processing space designed for hands-on learning, product development, and cost-effective scaling.
Recent investments have upgraded The Dock+’s processing technology to better support producers in the Alberni Valley. High Pressure Processing (HPP) was included in the expansion, increasing food safety, extending shelf life, and enabling new product development.
By upgrading its infrastructure, The Dock+ can better support local food producers, create economic opportunities and local jobs, enhance food security, and drive innovation in seafood processing.
The BC Food Hub Network includes 12 regional hubs supporting food and agriculture businesses. The Dock+ is one of regional hubs across B.C. that provides shared kitchens, equipment, and technical expertise tailored to local needs so businesses can access services that match their growth stage – an affordable way to pursue their dreams without heavy overhead. The Dock+ lets entrepreneurs turn their food ideas into reality. With the recent expansion, new members, workshops, and a community mural, we’re excited to see what comes next.
